Hockey: Ken Holland seeking changes in overtime format

Five-minute overtimes followed by a shootout is a joke that undermines the legitimacy of the regular season.  I’d go even further than the Red Wings’ GM would, and require teams to play a full twenty-minute period before having to resort to the shootout.  Shootouts can be very entertaining, but it’s not an ideal way to decide a game.  Detroit Free Press: Red Wings’ Ken Holland will GMs for OT changes

  1. Wow, I could not agree with you more. My dad, grandfather and I all hate the current OT format. It's a joke, and doesn't really require a lot of anything other than excellent goaltending to win. Besides, with all of these shootouts happening, they are no longer as special as they once were.
