A call for fair judgment of Staff Sgt. Bales

I’m not going to pretend I know what was going through the head of Staff Sgt. Robert Bales, though there is evidence to suggest he wasn’t exactly the most stable fellow (see below.) Clearly, what he stands accused of – murdering 17 unarmed Afghan civilians – is a horrible crime, but I believe one brought on by being under a level of stress he probably couldn’t handle. An unfortunate side effect is the Islamists are out of their minds with anger, putting our troops in extra peril. If found guilty, I do not believe Bales should receive the death penalty, and pray he’ll be judged in a humane manner …
