Don’t get carried away thinking Romney is going to win big

Overconfidence is a dangerous thing, and I’m starting to believe many of my friends are getting carried away believing that Romney is going to win in a landslide. I say, if he can get to 270 then we ought to be exceedingly grateful for that. Especially with the downright TEPID campaign Romney is running. This is a dogfight we’re in. We have to remember that much of this country is hostile to the Republican Party, for better or for worse. And that includes a lot of independents, not just the extreme left. Millions of Americans vote for all the wrong reasons, which is why a principled budget hawk like Paul Ryan – who would probably make for a pretty good VP in these times – is never going to excite the imagination of the general public. Let’s face it, the guy is pretty dull, and rather dorky at that. It’s not right, but people take notice of those kind of things when considering who to vote for …

We have to remember that Obama has millions of voters he can count on, even if they’re not quite as excited to vote for him as they were four years ago. Let’s not forget that Obama already has the structure in place to rig this election like no election has ever been rigged in American history. NOTHING whatsoever can be put past this gang of criminals in power. And, finally, we must remember this isn’t Ronald Reagan we’re voting for here. Mitt Romney was, for most of us, among the very last of the candidates we wanted. Let’s not pretend we’re going to have a great president here if he is lucky enough to be elected. We’ll SEE if Romney is really serious about repealing Obamacare, etc. etc. And there are so many important issues – too numerous to list – that he is just not talking about at all. Furthermore, even as we hope for the best, we really, really need to start preparing NOW for the very real possibility of Obama Part II. In other words, let’s stay humble until we have this battle won. I will continue to hold my nose and pretend I like Romney, and I will continue to do everything in my power to get him elected. But, I’m still operating on the assumption that we’re at least as likely to lose as we are to win …
