One would naturally be loathe to take anything that comes of the mouth of an Islamist murderer like Zacarias Moussaoui at face value. Ever since September 11, 2001, though, there’s never been any doubt on this end that the Saudi royal family – and the Wahhabi religious sect that controls the real power in that country – was either partially or completely financing al-Qaeda’s activities. Osama bin Laden himself was a member of the royal family, albeit estranged from them and ostensibly a political enemy. And here it all comes back to energy independence – and building the Keystone XL pipeline – because the Saudis have us by the neck with their oil, and they are clearly not trustworthy. Certainly not real allies. Moussaoui even goes as far as to claim he conspired with an official from Saudi Arabia’s D.C. embassy to pull off a ‘stinger attack’ upon Air Force One. Whether Moussaoui is merely delusional or is being truthful (and what does he have to lose by spilling the beans at this point?), it is clear America & Saudi Arabia need a divorce from one another.
